"HOOFIN' IT"  - Farriers and Feet ...

Welcome to our "Hoofin' It" page.

A good farrier is a necessity to ensure your horse's soundness.  A horse's legs are one of its most important assets.  In the wild, a horse with a leg injury has little prospect of survival if the injury slows it down or hinders its ability to run at all.

In our domestic counterparts, being unsound is uncomfortable, painful, and amounts to a horse you cannot utilize to its fullest potential.  It can be expensive and time consuming to get a lame horse back to being sound.  Competence in how to trim horses hooves is a must a horse owner cannot do without.

                                              It is, therefore, vital

                                              Picture
that you ask around and do your research to find your horse a darn good farrier.  While the cost of trimming and shoeing is a consideration, the emphasis - we believe - needs to be on the quality of the farrier and his or her work.

                                              Shopping for a farrier

                                              Picture
is not an exercise in who will charge the least amount.  If the best farrier happens to also be the least expensive, consider it an added bonus.  Always go for quality over how much you'll save if you choose the farrier with the cheapest rates.

A bad farrier trim can cause problems you will regret.

                                              Picture
For example, a bad trim in which too much sole is removed can bruise the bottom of a horse's feet.  It makes the horse lame.  It causes pain for the horse.  It also takes extra work and expense for a competent farrier to repair the damage.

                                              A Sound Horse

                                              Picture
is a happy horse, and one that will not act-up over painful foot and leg issues when the two of you are out on a ride.
