HORSE SENSE ....
Welcome to Horse of Course's "Horse Sense" page.
EQUINE HERPES VIRUS ALERT: We are advising all horse owners and anyone involved with horses to register for special up-to-date alerts by going to OUTBREAK ALERT's special website NOW. We have provided you with some basic information about a horse and how to care for him/her on this, on our Hoofin It and Vet Info pages. We also have our on-line Neigh Nutrition Store for products you'll need. We will do our best to cover a range of areas. But always remember that your horse vet, farrier, trainer, and other individuals experienced in horse care are also great prospects for brain-picking. Wet, Rainy Weather is Perfect for Causing Thrush.
The prime target of thrush is the inner frog area on the underside of the horse hoof.
Apprise yourself of how to spot this condition, how to treat it, and how to avoid it. Watch the great video above from Horse.com to learn more about thrush. We think
you'll find it very informative. Your horse will be glad you did!
Our Vet page
contains some useful links on such things as how to take your horse's vital signs, to knowing the signs of lameness, and being able to recognize colic. The more you know the more in control you will be.
So, starting here
is a great place to begin. Read up, watch, ask a lot of questions, and continue to learn. You'll find we say this over and over again, but it's because that is what it takes to become knowledgeable and, thereby, capable in any subject. The subject of horses is no different.

If you don't already
you'll want to learn the basics of caring for your horse, from being familiar with common diseases of the horse, to knowing how often to have your horse's feet trimmed, to knowing when to get a vet, and even how to groom a horse.
You may not be interested
in how to trim horses feet, but you will still want to learn about every aspect of your horse. It will allow you to be more aware of situations that need a farrier, or a vet before a situation goes untreated too long. As big, majestic and beautiful as horses are, they are incredibly accident-prone and fragile animals in many respects. Some breeds more so than others
|
So - if you don't have it already -
develop a thirst for anything to do with learning more about these incredible creatures. You'll find, we think, in the process you will learn a great deal about yourself as well.
